Too Early

Sometimes, death arrives like a whisper,

Uninvited, unforgiving, unkind

It tiptoes in when hearts are full,

And leaves only silence behind.

I’ve pleaded with You,

With hands folded and heart undone

Can’t You wait? Just a little while?

Let them see their children growing.

Let them laugh a few more times,

Feel the sun on weary skin,

Hold the hands they’ve always held,

Let love win  just once again.

Why must the good be taken first?

Why must the stories end midway?

A breath, a blink, and all is changed —

Joy turned to ash in a single day.

I’ve known this pain — it’s not new.

I met it the day my amma flew.

That quiet goodbye still echoes loud,

I carry her voice through every crowd.

And now again, I stand and watch,

Another soul on that fragile line

Between this world and the unknown,

While prayers and tears intertwine.

Lord, if You’re listening in this night,

If You can feel their breaking heart,

Do what only You can do

Don’t let another life depart.

It’s too early, far too soon.

There’s so much left they’ve yet to do.

If You must take, then take our pain

But not this soul. Not now. Not again.
